Root Abyss is back, and with some changes. There is a new hunting area,
the Neglected Garden that is available level 180+ players who have
completed all of the Root Abyss quests. This can be entered from the
Hidden Passage located where Alicia used to be standing in the Colossal
Root. This new hunting ground contains level 180 and level 190 monsters,
and players may hunt in this area for up to an hour at a time.
Chaos Mode Bosses have changed as well. The level requirement is now
level 180 to enter. Players may attempt Chaos Mode as many times as they
wish, but they are only able to clear each Chaos Mode Boss once per
week. This will reset every Thursday. Also, if you consume all of your
deaths while participating in Chaos Mode, but your party clears the
boss, you will also receive credit for the kill (as long as you dealt
some damage to the boss as well). Players will no longer lose EXP if
they die during a Root Abyss boss fight.
Cash Shop EXP Coupons are undergoing a change during the v139. You will
no longer be able to purchase these coupons with characters that are
level 201 or above. If you purchase a coupon before level 201 and then
level up, it will still grant bonus EXP to your character as long as
it’s in your inventory. When it wears off, you will no longer be able to
purchase another coupon with the character that is level 201 or above.
Coupons that were purchased on a character that is level 201 or above
before the v139 update will still be usable.
This change will help balance MapleStory's late-game experience and ensure that the level 250 cap remains meaningful.
[Update 7/24/13] Our developers confirmed that the core development team
found that the HP and EXP of the golems in Twilight Perion were found
to be much higher than intended. Their HP and EXP have been adjusted.

The OS4 has created a pink Zakum clone for adventurers to fight to let off stress!
You can enter the battle by accepting the quest, which will appear 3 times per day: 6:30 PM, 7:30 PM, and 8:30 PM Pacific.
Click the walkie talkie notification above your character's
head to speak to the OS4 and accept the quest and be sent to the waiting
room.
After a brief moment in the waiting room, players will be divided up into different battle instances.
Up to 40 players can enter a Pink Zakum instance.
Since you won't have much time to create a party, special HP,
MP, and Speed buffs will be granted automatically to all players in the
map.
Even though it's a clone, Pink Zakum was constructed to be much weaker than regular Zakum.
There is a 20 minute timer to beat Pink Zakum.
You will be able to leave the instance by talking to Researcher H.
If you die, you will respawn in a room with a portal and
Researcher H. Use the portal to enter the fight again, or talk to
Researcher H to be given the option to leave.
The OS4 buffs will be removed if you leave the map while Pink Zakum is still alive.
The OS4 buffs will remain in effect if you leave the map after defeating Pink Zakum.
After the battle is complete you'll be sent to a debriefing
room. Talk to Head Researcher Wynn to claim your prize or admit defeat.
Once you leave the event maps, you will be moved to the closest town.
Rewards:
special Teleport Rock (1 time use, expires after 30 minutes)

Evolving Rings are back! This time however, things have changed. There
are now three Evolving rings to collect and upgrade, and if you collect
all three and upgrade them at least 30 times
total, you can combine them into

upgrade my ring." with both the ring and potion in their inventory, and
they will receive one upgrade to their ring.
Players must do this 11 times during each 12 day phase to fully upgrade each ring.
If players have participated at least 30 days, they can receive
the Absolute Ring, which has the combined stats of all three Evolving
Rings.
Players can keep track of their progress by speaking to Gaga
and selecting 'Check your event list.' This will bring up an Attendance
Check UI that shows each date of the event, and stamps on the days that
the player has participated in.

(07/14, 08/04, and 08/18) is only for those who missed the 11th day of
each phase (07/13, 08/03, and 08/17). This way, if a player missed the
last day, they can still make their ring tradable, and receive the 11th
upgrade. Players who missed any other day, but upgraded on the 11th day
and made their ring tradable, will not be able to use the bonus day.
[Update v.139] In addition to the bonus day, the number of upgrades required to get the Absolute Ring has been reduced from 31 to 30 times.

A young boy once disappeared from Edelstein while walking home after
playing Mesorangers with his friends. Abducted by Gelimer, the chief
scientist of the Black Wings, the boy's memories were seemingly erased
and he was made into a test subject for advanced cyberization.
Several years later, the leaders of the Resistance broke into one of
Gelimer's labs, but one of them - Claudine - was captured. The
kidnapped boy, now a superhuman cyborg named Xenon, was disturbed and
confused. A memory started coming back to him: Claudine was one of his
childhood friends. Puzzled by this revelation and wanting to unlock
more of his memories, he freed Claudine and they fought their way out of
the lab along with Xenon's cyborg friend Roo-D.
Freed from captivity, Xenon sets out on a journey to regain his humanity.

Notice of Removal of MTS, World Transfers and Name Changes
As of our May 31st update, we will be disabling the ability to buy
and sell items on the Maple Trading System (MTS). Items that are still
listed prior to the update will be retrievable after the game servers
are brought back up, and you have until the rest of the summer to remove
any items from your MTS inventory.
We'll also be removing World Transfer and Name Change tickets from
the Cash Shop. Any requests pending before the game servers are brought
down on May 31st will still be processed.
In our continuing efforts to protect the security of our players and
integrity of the game economy, we had to remove these systems due to the
malicious activity on the part of some users, which was unfortunately
affecting the service as a whole in a very negative way. We shall be
working on improving these systems, and hope to return them to the game
at a later point in time. In the meantime, be sure to grab your items
from the MTS before it closes!
Most of the time whenAngry Pepe looks at reports about hackers, hacking, and people who steal other peoples information, his reaction is the same as yours outrage. We go to enormous lengths to protect the games from hackers and thieves and I take it as a personal offense when someone violates that. There are times though, when I look at a hacking incident report and I just have to shake my head. The entry on such a report is always the same Account Shared? Yes. In terms of protecting your account and your information, the most powerful thing you can do is also the simplest.
Do not share your account!
We talked about this is a previous Angry Pepe post, but I honestly dont know how to put it any simpler than that. Dont share your account with anybody. That means nobody. Not your guild mate, not your best buddy, not your school chum, not your brother or sister, nobody. Dont share your account. Just dont.
My friend wouldnt steal from me.
The resistance to this simple piece of advice baffles me. Yet whenever we offer it, we get responses from people that range from the idea that were accusing friends and family members of being criminals to the idea that this is part of some evil plan to squeeze more money from our customers. None of these reactions passes even the simplest test of logic.
Heres the thing. In the vast majority of cases where players share their account, players are absolutely right that the person theyre sharing with wouldnt deliberately steal from them. The operative woird in that sentence is "deliberately." The thing is, when you entrust your account to someone, youre responsible for everything that happens to it. If someone using your account misunderstands the nature of the Cash Shop and goes in and drains your account of NX by buying a dozen pets because he doesnt understand how they work, Im afraid you havent been hacked. You are however, responsible for the purchase of those pets.
If the person you were showing your cool gear to gives your password information to a hacker pretending to be a Nexon employee, youre going to lose your stuff despite the fact that your friend certainly didnt set out to hurt you. As for the plot to make money?
Nexon Accounts are FREE
But what if you want to show someone your cool character with all your great gear or you want them to try out the game in the hopes theyll become a regular player? Have them make a free account and follow you around for a while. Theyll not only get in the game on the ground floor, you can give them a leg up by helping them earn XP and getting them equipment. Theres no quicker way to get a friend into the game than by helping them establish themselves. If your friend has a problem downloading the game, we have a DVD availablewith the client on it that can be yours for just the cost of shipping and handling.
One of the best and by best I mean most ridiculous -- reasons anyone ever gave me for sharing their account was the guild I joined had as a condition of joining that everyone share their account information so we would always have a variety of classes available for PQs. My quick answer to that was get a new guild. No guild should ever make part of its joining conditions that you give up sensitive information. Thats like your baseball team asking for your locker combination so they can use your uniform if you happen to be absent from the game.
Account Sharing Make Pepe Angry!
Put simply, there is no good reason to ever share your account information with anyone. I wish I could tell you the number of tragic emails we receive that begin I got hacked! Then our investigation proves that whatever happened, happened because somebody shared their account. But I never logged in at that computer! we hear, only to discover that that computer belongs to a friend or a guild mate. This warning doesnt come from nowhere. We see the dire results in forums and Customer Support tickets every day and unfortunately, it happens a lot. Keeping your account information private is simply your best shot at keeping your account secure.
Last year the Panda wrote a long, involved post that gave detailed
information on phishing. It's still worth reading and you should check
it out. The thing is, hackers and phishers don't stand still. They're
constantly looking for new ways to steal your information. MapleStory
and Nexon are no different in that regard. Our company and our players
are plagued by this as much as anyone. That's the reason that we're
throwing our second annual Security Awareness Month. We wanted to give
you*some tips on avoiding phishing scams -- and I want to focus
specifically on some of the most common ways MapleStory users get
scammed.*
1. Stop and think. Then stop and think again!*
One of the best ways a phisher can get your information is to get you to
panic. If they can get you to act before you think about what you're
doing, they have a better chance of getting you to do something that
might compromise your information. Nexon will never do anything to your account, your characters, your items, or your information without your consent. If
you see an email that threatens to delete inactive characters or that
warns you to update your password within 24 hours, be very suspicious.
There's always time to investigate a strange email or Website. You will
never lose anything by waiting.
2. Be smart on Facebook.
Facebook is a wonderful way to connect with friends, have fun, and find
other Maplers. The official MapleStory Facebook page is constantly
updated with information on sales, in-game events, previews of upcoming
content, contests, and much more. Be careful though. Facebook has also
become a breeding ground for phishers. They mostly come in two forms:*
***** -- Linked comments: Nexon does not*comment on its own
Facebook posts. If you see a link offering "Free NX" or some kind of
special Maple event, it's a scam. Do not click on it. We do our best to
eliminate these phony comments, but they do slip through.
***** -- Phony Facebook page: The URL for the official MapleStory Facebook is http://www.facebook.com/maplestory.
Be careful of Facebook pages that may look like the official page. They
may even replicate our posts and use*links to send you to a phishing
site.
3. Be careful with strange emails
One of the primary way phishers scam you is through phony
emails. Here are a few things to look for when confronted by a strange
email.*
*****--* Strange sender:*An email from Nexon will always come from info@blockparty.com. If it comes from another email sender, be suspicious.*
*****--* Strange or unfamiliar links: Be careful of clicking
links in an e-mail message. While the links text may look completely
legitimate, the links source code points to a completely different site.
Always remember that you dont have to click on a link. You can cut and
paste it into your Web browser or type it in yourself.*
******--* Strange greetings: Phishing emails often have unusual greetings designed to slip past email filters.
******--* Typos: Phishers will often deliberately introduce typos into an e-mail message in order to bypass email filters.*
******--* Incorrect Grammar: This is another method used to slip past email filters.*
******-- *Misspelled company name. Another method that phishers
use to get past email filters. Common variations include using a 0 for
the o on Nexon and unusual spacing.: e.g. Nex0n, NexonAmerica and Nex
on.
4. Don't ever give out your information to anybody -- ever!
Nexon will never ask you for your personal information such as a
password or any real information such as your name or address or Social
Security number. If you are asked for your personal information by
someone claiming to be a Nexon representative, they're lying. This
includes requests via email, instant message, via Facebook
communication, or by any other method. Be wary of pop-up windows also.
Nexon does not use pop-up windows to ask for information. If you see
one, a phisher has directed you to the real Nexon site but is using a
program to generate a fake window to get your information.
5. Protect your computer
There's a lot of good spyware, anti-virus,
anti-malware, and firewall software out there. Much of it is cheap, or
free! Use it and keep it updated. There are also many good add-on
security programs for your Web browsers that will block malicious
programs or prevent unauthorized scripts from running.
6. Change your password regularly and use different passwords
Using*the same password for all*of*your accounts is
actually a faily common mistake people make. Doing so though,*means that
if a hacker or phisher get one password, they'll get access to
everything you have! Don't use*the same password for your MapleStory
account that you use for your bank account, your school account, or
anything else you do online.
7. Watch out for phony Websites
Phishers often use the Nexon logo or official art from one of our games
to make their emails and Websites look real.* Here are some things to
look for that will tell you a Website is suspicious.
*
Here are some other ways to detect youve been directed to a fake site.*
***** * How did you get here? Did you follow an email or chat link to get to the site? If you did, use caution.*
***** * Check the URL: All official Nexon sites use the URL
pattern "http://[gamename].nexon.net." If a site doesnt end with
Nexon.net, its not an official Website.*
***** * Look for blind links and broken or dead end pages: Look
around for ways to get back to the home page or to find other
information. If there are no other links on the page and no way to get
to any other locations on the site, be suspicious.*
*** 8. Don't share accounts!
This can't be stressed often enough. Do not share your accounts! It
doesn't matter how much you trust someone, once your information is out
of your control, you do not know what will happen to it. While*the
friend
